WE ARE FULLY AWARE OF ALL THE CHALLENGES FACING UI, WE ARE NOT RELENTING IN OUR EFFORTS TO ENSURE THAT ALL IS WELL. – UI Council Chairman

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka has been described as one of the most transparent and honest administrators of the institution in the past 70 years. This is a statement of eulogy said by the Pro-Chancellor of University of Ibadan and Chairman of Council, Nde Waklek Joshua Mutka.

He commented that the Vice-Chancellor was not only very transparent and honest in his administrative style, but also very reliable and results-oriented, saying “I am very pleased working with him because I have no reason to doubt his sincerity of purpose and integrity”.

According to him, while speaking on a wide range of issues confronting the university, “the VC, Professor Olayinka is a very transparent and honest leader. I will say he is one of the most transparent and honest VCs in the history of this University. And I think that is a very positive, critical factor in managing the resources of the institution”

The Chairman stated that “When you have a transparent manager, when there is no corruption in the system, the resources in the system will be well harnessed for the growth and progress of the system. This is one of the values that Prof. Olayinka has added to the system. He is transparent and honest and I am very pleased working with him”.

On the inadequacy of funds rocking the Universities, Nde Mutka hinted that the Association of university Council Chairmen has been making necessary contact with the appropriate quarters with a view to resolving the issue, urging university staff members to be patient.

The Council Chairman was hopeful that though Nigeria may be going through tough time, pointing out that “with patience and prayers, everything will be all right”.

He stressed further that “We are fully aware of all the challenges facing UI, we are not relenting in our efforts to ensure that all is well. We are working round the clock to tackle the problems. That is one of the reasons we hold Council meeting regularly. It is expected of us to tackle the issues frontally. I can assure you that we will not disappoint those who gave us this assignment”.
