UNIZIK students, who lost one of their colleagues over the weekend after he reportedly slumped while playing basketball, held a peaceful protest over the incident.
It was gathered that the school’s management did not allow the students to hold the protest in the school premises, so they took the protest down to Anambra Broadcasting Service and further stated that they want their school clinic to be properly equipped.
We reported that the promising young man identified simply as Francis was said to have slumped during a basketball competition before he was rushed to the hospital where he died. Francis was meant to write his last paper on Monday, July 23.
According to the report shared by a UNIZIK student who was present when Francis slumped, the deceased was rushed to the school’s clinic but there was no doctor on the ground or oxygen to help stabilize him.
She further said that he was later rushed to another hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival. This is coming just two years after a student identified as Ugo, from the same Department, died because of the alleged carelessness of the doctors and lack of equipment at the institution’s clinic.
However, a statement from the school reads;

THE DECEASED WAS QUICKLY RUSHED TO THE UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTRE BUT HAD NO PULSE UPON EXAMINATION. THIS MEANS THAT HE HAD DIED BEFORE BEING BROUGHT TO THE UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTRE. HE WAS THEREAFTER TAKEN TO TEACHING HOSPITAL AMAKU FOR FURTHER ATTEMPT AT SALVAGING AN ALREADY BAD SITUATION. HE WAS WITHOUT PULSE AND CONFIRMED DEAD.
THE MANAGEMENT IS DEEPLY SADDENED AT THE UNFORTUNATE INCIDENT AND APPEALS FOR CALM AMONG THE STUDENTS.
