In January 2016, Association of Faculty of Arts Students, University of Ibadan made known its intention to organize an epoch-making event dubbed Nigerian Students Arts Festival.

Having stated the objectives of the festival to include stimulating creativity, promoting excellence and broadening intellectualism, the organizing committee, primarily constituted by members of the association, set out to make the initiative realizable. Consequently, the Arts Festival tagged ‘Arts Ablaze’ is scheduled to hold from Thursday 13th October to Saturday October 15th, 2016 at designated centres within the University of Ibadan.

According to Adeoye Adejare, the President of the Association who also doubles as head of the organizing committee, “The 3-day event is designed to feature various forms of arts including poetry performances, play, panel discussions, master classes, dance, music, visual arts exhibition and book fair.
“Being the Premier Faculty in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa, it is expected that we initiate programmes capable of bolstering the artistic abilities of young Nigerians whilst creating an avenue for the maximization of their potentials. We hope that this initiative leads to the emergence of renowned writers/artists who will dominate the global literary space just as Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka, Christopher Okigbo, Elechi Amadi, Chukwuemeka Ike and many notable others did,” he added.
In the previous announcement made by the organizing committee, it was revealed that the winners of NISAF Prize for Poetry will be awarded during the Arts Festival. The prize which closed to submissions on 10th August, 2016 was made to entertain entries from all tertiary institutions in the country.
As captured in the keynote address ‘Engaging the Youthfulness in Arts’ to be delivered by a literary icon, the festival revolves around the Nigerian youth and it is expected to feature prominently a host of remarkable young talents in the country.
