In a bid to investigate the sexual allegation involving one of its lecturers, the management of the University of Lagos, UNILAG has appealed to Linda Ikeji to help the institution in its investigative efforts.
In May 2018, a yet-to-be-identified student accused Prof. Segun Awonusi of the English Department of sexually harassing her in his office. The student also released some nude pictures of the lecturer which were published on Linda Ikeji Blog.
However, ever since the student accused the lecturer of sexually harassing her, she has refused to appear before the investigative committee to defend her claims.
Addressing the media on Monday, July 16, 2018, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe gave the name of the student as Joy Nwanna.
Ogundipe said Nwanna enrolled to 200 level through direct entry during 2012/2013 academic session and graduated during the 2015/2016 session from the English Department.
The VC said all efforts to reach the student by the committee proved abortive adding that all phone contacts provided in her records in UNILAG were not going through, while her supposed phone number belongs to one Yakubu Idris.
“The panel conducted its investigations and recently submitted its report. Preliminary findings indicate that the allegation of sexual harassment was not substantiated by the alleged victim or any other person.
“The preliminary investigations have raised certain questions and issues that need to be investigated further. Investigations are ongoing. The university is making efforts to confirm the authenticity or otherwise of the pictures that were released. The university also requires Miss Joy Nwanna to come forward to substantiate the allegations, Ogundipe said.
Apart from appealing to Linda Ikeji to assist in convincing Nwanna to come and defend her sexual harassment claim, the VC also said UNILAG may involve Police to invite her.
