The Usmanu Danfodiyo University team is set for the maiden edition of Higher Institution Football League (HIFL) which will hold on Wednesday, 1st August 2018 between Udus team (Udus Sultan) and BUK team (BUKStallion) at Bayero University of Kano Stadium.

The Higher Institution Football League will take place amongst 16 tertiary institutions across Nigeria partitioned to Coastal Zone A (Southern Region), Coastal Zone B (Southern region), Sahel Zone A (Northern Region), Sahel Zone B (Northern Region) which UDUS falls to Sahel Zone A.

Based on the football fixture: The HiFL league will feature 30 games and run for about 14 weeks. The teams in each conference will play the games in a return leg style elimination games, after which the final four teams will slug it out for the HiFL® Champions Trophy at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

The champion will represent Nigeria at the 2019 International University Sports Federation (FISU) Summer Universiade games in Naples, Italy.

In an interview with the University Director of Sport, Coach Atunwa at the University stadium on Monday, he explained that the team squad were fully ready for the competition and expressed his optimism of winning the competition he said:

“With the situation of things our team is fully ready for the challenge, we have gathered our squad for the past few weeks for the training and we have achieved great improvement which affirms our hope that we are going to win”

The Dean, student affairs Prof.Aminu Mode while addressing the players advised them to play fairly and passionately against their opponent he said:

“It is a pride that our university is privileged to be chosen amongst the selected 16 universities in Nigeria, Our university is widely known for being peaceful, we don’t cheat make sure you are passionate while playing with your opponent, our wish for you is to win and we wish you all the best” he wished.

Muhammad Ismail, the team captain on behalf of the team expressed their willingness to play passionately and represent the University well “We will make sure that we try our best and we will not relent our effort, our squads are improving and we expect a better result” he said.
