The management of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology has proposed to raise the school fee for students from 100 Level to 400 Level, raising tension among students.
The information was revealed by documents from the 133rd governing council meeting held on Thursday, July 5, obtained exclusively by the Union of Campus Journalists.
The new fees which, according to the document, will take effect from the 2018/2019 academic session ranges from 200,000 to 300,000 naira depending on the faculty.
Fees for Medical, Nursing and Biomedical students will now be N300,000, Engineering students will pay N250,000, while students of the Faculties of Basic Medical Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Environmental Sciences, and Pure and Applied Sciences will pay N200,000.
According to the management, the decision to increase the fees was to bring it “in consonance with the present financial realities the University was facing.”
The management also said it would “work out modalities for scholarship schemes to support the indigent students.”
From the document, it revealed that the Faculty of Management Science was not listed among faculties to be affected by the planned hike in school fees.
All of the seven faculties in LAUTECH were listed to be affected by the hike except the Faculty of Management Science.
At the moment, it is still unclear whether this was a clerical error or deliberate.
