The Senate of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State will be organising a special Senate session cum lying-in-state in honour of Professor Roderick Adoh Emi-Oliseyenum who died recently at the age of 65 to recognise his contributions to the academia and as part of the academic traditions to one of the egg heads in the University.

The special Senate session will come up on Tuesday, 18th September 2018 at Comrade R.I. Adepoju Building (ASUU Secretariat), Ijagun by 10.00am while an open funeral service comes up on Wednesday, 19th September 2018 at Red Brick House, Road 10 Extension, Ikangba Housing Estate, Ijebu Ode by 10.00 am.

Prof. Emi, who died on Sunday, 2nd September 2018 was born on September 19, 1953 to the family of Mr and Mrs Emi-Oliseyenum, in Kwale, Delta State of Nigeria.

He attended Liberty Secondary Commercial Academy, Ibadan between 1969 and 1973, from where he moved to The Polytechnic, Ibadan and graduated in 1977. His insatiable quest and love for knowledge saw him attending the University of Ife, Ile-Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) between 1977 and 1980 where he obtained a B.A (Hons) Degree in Fine Arts as well as the prestigious University of Ibadan, Ibadan where he bagged an M.A Visual Arts Degree in 1984.

In his bid to get himself firmly rooted in the teaching profession, Prof. Rod Adoh further obtained the Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from Olabisi Onabanjo University Ago-Iwoye in 1997. He started his career in 1981 as Lecturer III has joined the services of the then Ogun State College of Education on completing the compulsory one year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme in the College.

As an astute academic and award-winning scholar that he was, he capped it all with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Visual Arts from the Premier University, University of Ibadan, in the year 2007.

This academic giant and quintessential academic rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Creative Arts in 2014.

He served the erstwhile Tai Solarin College of Education and of course, Tai Solarin University of Education in various capacities. He served as Dean, School of Vocational and Technical Education, TASCE (1996 -1998); Head of Department, Fine and Applied Arts, TASCE (till 2002); Head of Department of Fine and Applied Arts, TASUED (2005 – 2006); Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship, Vocational and General Studies (2008 – 2012) and was the Head of Department, Creative Arts until about three months to his demise.

Professor Emi-Oliseyenum, Roderick Adoh was a member of many professional and learned societies. He had published many books and had numerous publications in reputable journals. Prof. Emi, as he was fondly called, had won many awards and laurels locally, nationally and globally.
