The representatives of the Akwa Ibom Law Students Association Nationwide witnessed the momentous occasion of the payment of Law School subvention by the Government of Akwa Ibom to indigenes at the Nigerian Law School.
At the National Association of Akwa Ibom State Law School Students, we saw on display, the passion for education the State Government demonstrated by assisting the April batch of Law School Students of the 2019 law school class, who had just completed their Bar Final Examination earlier this month.
The National body expressed deep appreciation to the government for resuming this laudable feat. “As prospective lawyers, we understand that seniority is an article of faith in the legal profession. Hence, the government has stated that the payment of law school subvention would commence with this batch of students who came out fresh from the law school this month. Although only 43 law school Students were present for the ceremony, the Hon. Commissioner affirmed that cheques were ready for all Students of Akwa Ibom origin in the April batch. He expressed optimism that the rest would come to the ministry to obtain their cheques in due course.”
The government believes that an authentic and comprehensive database of Law Students of Akwa Ibom origin would best be obtained from the Council for Legal Education. Hence, the students were charged to confirm their admission status as Law School Students, before the funds would be disbursed to us.
They praised the government for the initiative to authenticate the validity of admission status and relevant data. This shows that a thorough and fail-safe mechanism has been initiated to ensure that Law School Students actually get their funds directly.
The Students Body appreciate His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel. Also appreciate Commissioner for Education, Prof. Nse Essien: as well as the Special Adviser to the Governor( SA) on Students, Comr. Akwaowo Clifford.
