Bus Scarcity – Trust me, today’s bitter experience won’t leave the mind of students in a jiffy as they were patiently and unduly delayed on a Monday morning in getting conveyed to school for lectures, little or no thanks to Mapoly shuttle drivers.
Transportation took another dimension this morning as major bus stops where students board buses like panseke, safari, Iyana Oluwo junction, were seen with a mammoth crowd of students as few buses were made available to convey them to classes, waiting endlessly to get buses to take them to school.
Of course, students groan, decry and lament the state of transportation system deficiency as some students were said to have missed lectures having trekked down from the school entrance to their respective department to receives lectures.
Narrating her experience, a student of Mass communication department Miss Olubukola Famuyiwa, who is in her finals decried the state of transportation on campus, saying ‘ It was so annoying getting to the bus stop and had to wait for over an hour to get a bus and was unable to get any. The bus stop was crowded with students and no bus to convey the students to school and I think its high time we do something about it because this transportation of thing is affecting our lectures as it has now become a daily routine for us to miss first lecture’
To Worsen the situation, the school keke napeps which should be available to convey students who halted at the Polytechnic entrance by the security operatives for boarding bikes which by law does not allow in the school premises saw students trekking down from gate to lecture rooms which is a long distance.
Putting the record straight, the populations of students currently on campus has apparently reduced compare to those figures we had a few years back and this fact ought to lessen the transportation deficiency among students but harder it bite, How manage?
As incessant transportation issues persist and becoming unsolvable in Mapoly, it is high time for the stakeholders to listen to the cry of students by coming up with plans in ensuring that the needful are done for students to enjoy a better transportation system.
The way out ?
MAPOLY transport services on her part is expected to do more in solving this incessant problem by ensuring those long Marcopolo buses are made available at panseke axis as at appropriate time having in mind that lectures commence by 8am.
Mapoly shuttle drivers, who also have a major role to play should also ensure that they made themselves available at various bus stops like Panseke, safari, Police post in oluwo, Iyana Oluwo and Iyana Oloke junction.
No doubt, these changes, if implemented, would improve the transportation system in Mapoly.
