Founding fathers of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun have been commended for their foresight in introducing Vocational and Entrepreneurial Studies into the curriculum of the Institution.

The Director, Institute for Entrepreneurship and Development Studies, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Dr.Isaac Abereijo, made this comment during his visit to Prof. Oluyemisi Obilade Centre for Vocational and Entrepreneurial Studies of the University recently describing the development as a nobel idea that will not only make the graduates self-employed but also provides employment opportunities for teeming young Nigerians.

Dr. Abereijo stated that “with the vocational skills acquired by undergraduates, they can be gainfully employed instead of roaming the streets looking for the elusive white collar job and this, to me, will create wealth for the nation”, he added.

He further noted that despite the fact that OAU is aware that TASUED is a haven of vocational skills, yet it was important for the team to embark on the on-the-spot assessment to the Centre and with the visit, they had been convinced about TASUED’s ranking as the first University in Nigeria to introduce vocational and entrepreneurship skills into its curriculum.

The Deputy Director of the OAU Institute, Dr. Charles Temitope Jegede, also aligned with his colleague by noting that with what the team had seen, they will go back to their University to replicate the TASUED model and with an appeal to the University Management to give them the necessary support they needed.

In his response the Director, Prof. Oluyemisi Obilade Centre for Vocational and Entrepreneurial Study, (CENVOS), Prof. Abiodun Banjo thanked the team for coming to the source of Vocational skills in the country and further advised the team to make the course compulsory if they actually want the students to be well equipped.
