On Tuesday 27th of March 2018, students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife protested over the unlawful arrest of students who have been kept in the custody of the police.
In a statement released by the action committee of the Great Ìfẹ́ students’ union, they frowned and expressed their displeasure and disappointment over the school management draconic actions.
The Mass mobilization of students which started around 8:40 in various all Halls of residence with students converging at Students’ Union Building (SUB), where the #occupyOAU started with the massive awareness with gyration and distribution of leaflets was indeed impressive.
Few minutes after the gyration, NASU/SSANU chairman came and addressed the mass of students. They made it known that the Hall Warden of Moremi Hall denied been assaulted or harassed and held hostage by the Students. The NASU/SSANU chairman pledged their support to Students’ struggle and promised to help in anyway they can.
Students in their numbers embarked on a solidarity march/mass awareness round the University, the march which started from the Students’ Union Building (SUB) to the school gate had the students distributing leaflets to passerbys and vehicle drivers.
In solidarity, Students from other campuses gave solidarity messages and support for the struggle against the management. At the time of filing the report, students mobilized themselves to move down to Ajemibadele court for application of bail variation, alongside the lawyer. It was specified that if the bail conditions is met and the release is secured, students will also mobilise powerfully to campus but if otherwise, mass awareness in Media Houses and Radio Stations should commence immediately to prepare for mass action on Wednesday.
