Two post-UTME candidates of Obafemi Awolowo University and a commercial motorcyclist were crushes to death yesterday, Monday 2nd September, 2019 at the Moro junction of the Ife-Ede-Osogbo express road.
The candidates were said to be returning back to the Ife town on a commercial motorcycle after their post UTME which took place at the Centre for Distance Learning, Moro Campus of the University.
One of the candidates and the commercial motorcyclist were confirmed dead at the spot of the incident while the other candidate was rushed to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex, Ile-Ife.
An eye witness who gave account of the incident states that the victims were crushed to death by a luxurious bus that allegedly drove against traffic rules and collided with the bike conveying the victims to Ife, though the road is nothing to write about as it’s now at the verge of not been motorable.
The other candidate that was rushed to OAUTHC has also been confirmed dead at the hospital.
While confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Folashade Odoro, said the commissioner of police in the state has ordered an investigation into the sad incident.
Some aggrieved motorcycle riders, road users and other motorists who had set bonfires on the road immediately after the incident lamented the deplorable state of the express road and the specific spot which the incident had occur.
The Public Relations Officer of Obafemi Awolowo University, Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju while speaking with newsmen bemoaned the accident, he charged motorists to comply with traffic rules and regulations and also sympathized with the family of the deceased.
