Professor A. A. Elujoba, the Acting VC, has appealed to all sons and daughters at home and in the Diaspora to urgently bail-out the Obafemi Awolowo University from infrastructural deficiency. Speaking during his maiden official outing last Friday during the Colloquium on the Life and Times of Oba Okunade Sijuwade, Professor Elujoba, the first indigene of Ile-Ife to ascend the exalted VC position in the Obafemi Awolowo University, reminded his kiths and kins that the ancient town was lucky to have the prestigious institution on its soil.
“OAU cannot be separated from Ile-Ife,” Elujoba declared. Despite this very rare opportunity, however, he regretted that the Ifes have not supported the institution in terms of infrastructural development. While singling out Chief Odeyemi who he described as worthy son of Ile-Ife for donating the gigantic edifice that houses the Natural History Museum to the University, the Acting VC begged the Ifes “to rally round the University as it strives for greatness.” Within his six-month tenure, Elujoba declared: “I want to see great things done by Ife-indigenes.” He was particularly sad that the much talked about greatness of the Obafemi Awolowo University has eroded.
“As of today” he lamented, “I Cannot see anything great in OAU.” Elujoba was nonetheless optimistic that the future of the 54-year-old institution was very bright. “I have seen the Promised-land for OAU, I dreamt about sky-scrappers in OAU,” he intimated. Having been loudly assured by all the Ifes in attendance, Professor Elujoba charged: “If you have two kobo, give one to OAU.” During his tenure in office, he promised to strengthen the Town-Gown relations of the institution.”
