EDO Corps – On 5th of July 2018, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC members serving in Ovia South West Local Government area of Edo state under the auspices of Nigerian Christian Corpers fellowship, has sensitized secondary school students in the environment on proper personal hygiene, effective communication skills, skill acquisition and career path choices.
The Nigeria Christian Corpers Fellowship arm of Ovia Southwest LGA, Iguobazuwa zone took its sensitization exercise to the students of Mother of Mercy Comprehensive Catholic Secondary School, Edo State as the host school which had students from other schools in attendance such as Access academy, Glory field school, Graceland school and others.
The career talk, held at the school hall, drew the attention of about 100 students with the Corps members sensitizing the students through in-depth career guidance and counseling, where they enlightened the students on various personal hygiene manners, good etiquette and mannerism, how to discover themselves, their strengths, values, personality and skills.
The compere at the event, Corper Damilare Olaniyan who anchored the event to the admiration of the students and teachers ensured the atmosphere was never a dull moment as he simultaneously engaged the students through prompt questioning and active participation.
Corper Busayo Ogundipe enlightened the students as regards the initiative of the programme which was the first maiden edition of the Teenagers forum by NCCF in the zone aimed at sensitizing the students as regards their well-being and other intellectual discourse.
At the event, a talk presentation on “Health talk” was delivered by Corper Idris Olanrewaju as regards aspect of the environmental health, while Corper Bukunmi Ezekiel sensitized the young students on the need for “personal hygiene” and “Sex Education”.
One of the Corps facilitators, Corper Ijose Seun taught the students on cake baking process through practical sessions. Corper Damilare Naomi also enlightened the young minds on the aspect of etiquette and mannerism. In the same flow of activities, Corper Alao Abiodun, sensitized the students on effective communication skills.
The NCCF coordinator, Iguobazuwa, Corper Udoge Chimaobi who was also present at an event, charged the students on motivational talk on path to success advise them to ensure they imbibe all the lessons learnt at the event. Highlights of the event include Skill acquisition (Cake Baking), singing session, group photograph by corps members and students with the school management.
However, expressing their joy with the Sensitization, one of the students of Access Academy, Okorie Bridget, said: “The talk was educative and I have learned a lot from our dear corpers.” For Godwin Happy, the programme was an enlightenment as it opened his eyes and broaden her scope on vital issues.
At the end of the event, Corper Oyelami Moyosore led other corpers to sing the NYSC anthem to the admiration of the Students who were quite ecstatic listening to the melodious anthem.
