The President of National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Comr. Bamidele Danielson AKPAN has on Thursday, 4th of October relocate the secretariat of the association to Jos, Plateau State over the recent attack on students of the University of Jos where two students were killed.
This took place after the President had a meeting with students who were agitated and frantic about the situation. According to our report, the students were moving in mass out of their hostels and finding their way to the nearest exit from the troubled town. Some State governments have also sent buses to evacuate their indigenes.
The students informed the President that they don’t feel safe anymore, therefore cannot study under such condition as they anticipate how soon the next attack will happen. The President assured them that the other Nigerian students are with them in this trying period adding that he is here to see how they can mitigate the scenario and ensure a conducive learning environment for them.
Mr President, thereafter, paid a visit to students who are still recuperating in the hospital for first-hand information about their welfare and condition afterwards he proceeded to meet with the management of the University of Jos. There, he expressed his displeasure over the porous security around the university community which could have given an opportunity for the attack.
He went ahead to meet the Director General of DSS in Plateau State to request for beefing up of security around all campuses domiciled in Plateau State and demanded that the culprits be brought to book as this is an attack on the conscience of the Nigerian youth.
The President and his team is expected to visit other campuses in the State, Commander of the Joint Task Force, Plateau Command and the Government of Plateau State tomorrow.
