The Leadership of National Association of Nigeria Student NANS Zone D meet with the University Management of Ekiti State University and the Student Union Government,  yesterday December 7,2016 at EKSU Guest House.

The Vice chancellor appreciated the efforts of union leaders in students unionism and also acknowledged the letter they sent to him. He said “Unionism should have gone beyond the era of violence” and also stressed that unionism is a part of democracy.
The NANS Secretary General Com. Oloja Olarenwaju raised the issue of the hike in fees, which includes the #4,000 ICT maintenance fees,he pointed out that the fee is too much and termed it “illegal”.Another issue raised by the Secretary General was the acceptance fee, he wanted to know why the fee was increased.
The Vice chancellor’s response; “The council had already set up a committee to review the school fees after 5 years based on the economic situation before I was appointed.Ekiti State University is a State University unlike Federal universities which is funded by the Federal Government.The decision was already made”.He further went to say that the Faculty of Law is under Interim Accreditation because the faculty lacks a moot court, E-library,Law report.
The DVC development said that the increase in fees is to keep the system running. The Vice chancellor went ahead to analyze the problems the school is facing, which includes;

  • Lack of funds in two professional courses(Medicine and Law)
  • Non accreditation of medicine.

Furthermore, the Vice chancellor said he his considering organizing an interactive session(Parents forum) so as to allow parents know what is going on in the school
On the issue of the #4000,the Vice chancellor told the leaders that before the introduction of the eportal, EKSU was ranked 56th in Nigeria but the school has moved up to 22nd in the use of ICT.However, the Vice chancellor expressed his disappointment at Comrade China and Aruson.

Comrade Saheed Afolabi A.K.A SIDOF advised the University management to carry along the students leaders in any decision making. On the issue of Acceptance fee, he said “it is on the high side”
Comrade Asefon advised the school management to call on prominent people who are products of the school to aid the projects in the school.He also said that the incident of 2003,which led to the scrapping off of medicine should not repeat itself.
