The preliminary stage (first round) of Jawwar kick started on September 26, 2018 at Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan by 4:00pm. Jawwar is a Student-base debating competition which is organized by The Literary and Debating Society [TLDS], University of Ibadan.

This is an event comes up every year and it features both Halls of residence at the preliminary and faculties. The theme of the event for the 2018 Jawwar is “The Nigerian Dream: thoughts and actions.”

During a phone interview with the President of The Literary and Debating Society, Sadik Gbenga, he said “If you have been following, you would realize that every Jawwar has been better than the previous one and this year won’t be an exception. We’ve made plans to ensure that this year is better than the last one just like every other Jawwar has been an improvement on the previous ones.”

“For the Hall round today, we first had a little bit of an opening ceremony, just some song performances, spoken words, and then we went straight into the debate without wasting so much time.

Because we’re using Trenchard Hall, we had to start later than we initially broadcast because there was an event that happened before Jawwar, so we had to wait for them to finish Setup, so that took a little bit of our time. I would tell UITES to relax and enjoy Jawwar. Jawwar, this year, like every other year is bigger, it’s huge anywhere in Nigeria and we are proud of Jawwar”.
