At 12:55PM, Dr Oluwaleye, from Faculty of Engineering took the opening prayer. After the introduction of all principal officers in the university present, the Dean of Students Affairs, Prof Wole Adebayo was invited to address everyone present on the purpose of the meeting with the students.

The Students Union Government President, Com. Aridiogo David a.k.a Aruson in his welcoming speech compelled everyone to observe a minute silence for the death of a 300 level female political science student who lost her life in a fatal accident on her way to Lagos. He Continue by outlining some issues that has been bothering the minds of the students which has somehow caused confusion in the University community. The Issues that was outlined :

  • GST fees
  • ESC fees
  • The portal management fees
  • Summer school results and most especially the school fees.

The Vice chancellor in his speech said the issues raised by the Students Union leader will be thoroughly addressed and any other issues raised will also be addressed. He also urged the students to express themselves and no student will be identified with his or her opinion. He later implored the students to be of good courage and be respective during the meeting and further stressed that any noise from the students will be seen as a disrespect to the office of the VC and his management.
He also talked about the issues the Students leader didn’t mention one of which was electricity “which is most paramount and essential for any university”.He also mentioned the issue of water and he promised to attend to them. While speaking on the issue of school fees, he said “There’s is no increment, only #5,000 convocation fee for 400 level was added”.He advised students to shy away from spreading rumors.

On the issue of the eportal, he said a collaboration was made with OAU and FUNAAB but he will make sure that the institution will have an independent portal. He further explained that the school, Ekiti State University, is being charged for using the OAU portal. He also said he didn’t meet with the Deans of each faculty concerning the #8,000 faculty due and also stressed that it was as a result of the previous administration. He further suggested that it will be more reasonable for the #8,000 to be slashed into two,#4,000 for the faculty due and the other half for the eportal maintenance but the Deans of faculties weren’t informed which prompted him to call for a meeting. After his meetings with the Deans, it was concluded that the #8,000(faculty due) and #4,000(ICT maintenance) should remain because some faculties would lack financially.

On the issue of Entrepreneurship fee, he said he wished to cancel ESC for some students but might make it compulsory for only 200 and 300 level students. He said the matter will be discussed during the next Senate meeting On the GST fee, The VC said it will be reviewed later because the Director was not present.

On the delay of summer school result, he said he will meet with the Director of the program to sort it out and promised to make sure the NUC approved it .

On the Acceptance fee, he said citing the economic crisis the country is facing, the council decided to increase the fee so as to be financially stable to carry out projects for the benefits of the students

On Accommodation, The VC said the council is planning a full residential area for the students in few years to come and urged all students to embrace the development

At about 2:30PM,the VC gave room for questions, opinions and thoughts of the students on things affecting them in their various faculties. The meeting was declared close by the VC at 2:53PM.
