Edo State Varsity VC Warns Students Against Gangsterism

Edo State Varsity – Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor, the Acting Vice Chancellor, Edo University, Iyamho, Edo state has warned newly admitted students that any act of gangsterism and violence, saying that they would not be tolerated by the university management.

He also said the institution’s management believes that any student who derails by indulging in social vices would be sanctioned while those with excellent characters would be rewarded accordingly.

Aluyor gave the warning during the matriculation of 350 students for the 2017/2018 academic session of the institution held at Iyamho in Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.

While reminding the students to bear in mind that the most effective way to put across their demands and grievances was through dialogue and by exploiting all the established channels of communication in the university, the acting VC said “the institution is just three years in its existence, therefore; the institution is looking forward to producing its first set of graduates.

“This is the third matriculation ceremony of Edo University and we are looking forward to producing our first set of graduates.

“My dear matriculants, you are celebrated for being the lucky ones that were offered admission. I congratulate you for being the third set of students to take matriculation oath.

“As students of this university, I advise you to take your studies seriously,” he said.

Aluyor also said that the institution had signed a Memorandum of Understanding, (MOU), with two foreign universities, Worcester University US and Sunderland University, UK for exchange programme for the students of the institution, just as he said the institution runs six programmes since its inception in 2015.

He said the programmes are being run from the Faculties of Arts, Management and Social Sciences, Faculties of Basic Medical Sciences, Faculties of Clinical Sciences, Faculties of Engineering, Faculties of Law and Faculties of Science.

He added that the institution was established by the state government to be a Centre of Excellence in line with best practices to produce highly rated scholars and graduates, who will contribute significantly to the development of the nation.

He assured the students that staff and management of the institution would provide the enabling environment for them to excel.

“The idea of excellence in academics and industry stems from the motto of the university, which is “Quality Education for Development.

“I want to assure you that the Edo State Government and the management of Edo University will not relent in their efforts to ensure that all teaching and research facilities are provided for your learning benefits, “he said.
