UI loses lecturer to cold hands of death

In the early hours of Wednesday, 22nd of August 2018, Faculty of Education, University of Ibadan lost a notable lecturer, professor of Exercise physiology.

Professor Abass who was until his sudden demise, was seen amidst his friends and colleagues on campus Tuesday night but unfortunately died in the early hours of Wednesday in his house along Eleyele road.

The late professor who was aged 52, was until his death Chairman of University of Ibadan Intra-campus Transport committee, a position he had held for three years before his demise.

In a similar vein, The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Professor of Exercise Physiology, Ademola Olasupo Abass.

He expressed huge shock over the sudden Demise of the young professor. Prof. Olayinka encouraged the family to look unto God for assistance at this moment of grief, promising that the university would do everything possible to support the family, he further prayed for comfort of the family to bear the irreplaceable loss.

The late professor who was Born on 11 March, 1966, became a professor in 2011. He had his National Certificate in Education from Osun State College of Education Ilesa in 1985 and B.Ed. in Physical and Health Education (First Class Honours) at the University of Ibadan, in 1990.

Newly Married Final Year Student Dies During Child Birth

The Kogi State College of Education, Ankpa, has been thrown into mourning, following the death of a final year student who died yesterday during childbirth.

Abigail, a student of the English Department, was said to have died inside the labour room.

Her close friends took to her social media account to mourn her loss and post condolence messages.

Student Reportedly Commits Suicide After Drinking Sniper In Bayelsa

A Niger Delta University student identified as Aduba Daniel, who discovered that he had carried over in his courses, reportedly committed suicide by drinking a full bottle of insecticide, Sniper.

According to Ijaw Youth Advocate, Bodmas Kemepadei, sources revealed that the student identified as Aduba Daniel, after being rushed to the Tantua hospital in Amassoma (Bayelsa), it was realized that he drank the whole bottle of sniper insecticide.

The student was said to have passed away as the insecticide damaged important parts of his intestines.

Heartbroken sister to the deceased lamented his death online. She wrote;

Until we meet again. What a painful exit. Those special memories of you will always bring a smile if only I could have you back for just a little while Then we could sit and talk again just like we used to do you always meant so very much and always will do too the fact that you’re no longer here will always cause me pain but you’re forever in my heart..

Nigerian Female Student killed herself in her hotel room.

Nigerian Female Student – Omojola Ogundipe, a 20-year-old Bristol University student took her own life in a Cardiff hotel room, just days after a visit home for Mother’s Day. Staff at the Citrus Hotel in Cardiff found her body hanging in her hotel room after she missed her check-out deadline.

Late Omojola, described as “bright and bubbly”, was in the second year of her economics undergraduate degree at Bristol University, and was a leading member of the Gospel Choir Society.

A campaigner on environmental and human rights issues, she volunteered with several groups and was popular among her peers. An inquest into her death heard her dad tell Pontypridd Coroner’s Court his daughter had visited home just three days before they heard the tragic news.

During the court hearing on July 5, her dad, Kurle Ogundipe, said in a statement: “I last saw Omojola on March 11 when she returned home for the weekend. She appeared her usual bubbly self.”

He said the family were not aware of any ill health and did not think she suffered from depression or mental health problems. However, Miss Ogundipe’s close friend, Hannah Agbeyegbe, in a written statement read out to the court, said: “She was an independent person. Quite private.She didn’t really talk a lot about her personal life. It was around this time (when she moved to Bristol) that she disclosed to me that she was depressed and she had been having suicidal thoughts.” Summing up, coroner Christopher Woolley accepted the cause of death given by consultant pathologist Dr David Thomas at the University Hospital of Wales as death by hanging.

100-LEVEL STUDENT GOT HIT BY LIGHTNING IN ANAMBRA

According to a report by Punch Metro, lightning on Monday reportedly killed a-100 level student of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbarian campus, Anambra State, Vincent Mbanefo.

An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity said the victim was struck dead following a downpour on campus at about 5 pm on Monday.

He added, “He was a student of Agriculture Extension. He was going to his lodge at Achalla around 5 pm when the incident happened.

It was gathered that the deceased was working his phone when the lightning struck.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Mohammed Haruna, confirmed the incident.

Haruna said that Police detectives attached to Achalla division immediately rushed Vincent to a hospital where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

He said the boy’s parents were contacted immediately.

“They have since conveyed the corpse to their village in Aguleri for burial,” Haruna added.

14-Year-Old JSS1 Student Crushed To Death To By Truck In Ibadan

A 14-year-old JSS 1 student has died after being crushed to death by a truck in Ibadan area of Oyo state.

Information received revealed that the student was knocked down by the truck driver while trying to cross the road. The accident and the pupil’s untimely death was said to have caused tension in the area.

Angry residents vandalized the truck after the incident.

Recall that just last month, a similar incident happened when a driver of Oyo State-owned mass transit bus killed a secondary school pupil in Ibadan. The accident, which attracted other pupils, resulted in a mob attack on the bus, popularly called Ajumose.

People vandalized the vehicle by smashing the windscreen and side mirror.

The mob attacked the driver, a middle-aged man, who was injured.

The driver was said to have also injured pupils.

IMSU final year female student dies with lover in hostel

A final year student of the Imo State University, IMSU Blessing Amam, was on Monday found dead alongside her lover, identified as Emeka in her hostel in Umudagu-Mbieri, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state.

The OWL Campus Media learnt on Tuesday that the deceased student was a final year student in the Department of Theatre Arts, who was expected to graduate in August.

It was learnt that she slept in her hostel room with her lover on Sunday but both of them could not wake up the next day (Monday).

A neighbour, who craved anonymity, said it was the smell from the deceased room that alerted other occupants who had returned from school that something was wrong.

She said, “The students came back from school and started inhaling very offensive smell and on inquiry, it was discovered that it was from Blessing Amam’s room.

“Her flatmates called her but she did not respond. The door was forcefully opened and behold, Blessing and her lover were found dead. There were blood stains and marks on their bodies. Blood equally gushed out from their mouths and nostrils.”

The source, who expressed worry over the circumstances that could have led to the death of the suspected lovers, maintained that the deceased were full of life the night before, adding that there was no indication that they were in any trouble or distress in the room that night.

On inquiry, our correspondent was told that the students had fled because they did not want to be arrested by the police.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, who confirmed the incident said, “It was a case of sudden and unnatural death.”

He, however, said that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Dasuki Galandanchi, had ordered an investigation into the circumstances that led to the death of the lovers .“It is confirmed. It is a case of sudden and unnatural death. The commissioner of police has called for a thorough investigation into the matter. On receipt of the information, our men at Mbieri division rushed to the scene of the incident.

“The necessary information that aid investigation process has been collected but we call on the members of the public that has pieces of information that will help us unravel the circumstances that led to the death to please come forward,” he said.

The Director of Information, IMSU Students’ Union Government, Mr Desmond Joseph, who also confirmed the death of the final year student and her lover said, “Amam Blessing, a 400 level student of Imo State University, Department of Theatre Art is dead. She was found dead alongside her boyfriend.

“Their bodies were discovered because of the offensive smell that perturbed neighbours who traced the source. They broke the door to discover Blessing and her boyfriend with stains of blood from their mouths, nose and other parts of their bodies. We also gathered that such incident had happened in the past in a house somewhere in Owerri.

UI Students set to pay tributes to colleague, unveils plan to hold candle night procession

In remembrance of a deceased student of University of Ibadan, Miss Areola Tijesunimi who lost her life last week, plans have been made underway to hold a candle night procession in honor of the student.

In a release made by the Course Representative, 300 Level, Department of Political science, Tom Ajayi, He said “It’s with a painful heart I affirm the earlier report of the distasteful demise of Iyanuoluwa Tijesunimi Areola, a 300L student of Political Science, U.I, after a brief illness”.

Speaking further, He said “However, the planned visit to her home will be shelved owing to the conclusive arrangement for her burial that will be announced today. On this note we enjoin everyone to converge tomorrow Monday 18/6/2018 for the candle night procession that will be held in her honour around 5pm”.

In a similar vein, The Vice-chancellor, University of Ibadan, Prof. Idowu Olayinka in a brief remark with one of our correspondent, has also conveyed his condolences to the family of the departed student who lost her life to the cold hands of death, He said “What a great pity, We pray for the repose of her soul. The good Lord will comfort all the loved ones she left behind”

UI Loses student to cold hands of death

On 16th of June 2018, University of Ibadan Students in series of countless social media post mourned the departure of Miss. Iyanu Areola Tijesunimi, a 300 Level student of the Department of Political Department, resident of Queen Idia Hall who was said to have succumbed to sickness.

News of the tragic death of the late promising UI student quickly did spread around like wild harmattan fire. The late Areola’s death was more painful to members of her immediate family, friends, admirers, colleagues and her fellowship members over the untimely departure caused by a strange illness, unconfirmed report had it that she battled with chronic malaria for days.

Many Uites have expressed shock over the incident, describing the deceased as a “very vibrant and intelligent lady”. She was furthermore described as a jovial lady, friendly and cheerful by some of her close friends.

Student Commits Suicide After Allegedly ‘Blowing’ His School Fees

A young man has reportedly Commits Suicide after school management discovered he forged deposit slips for their fees.

The second-year student at George Benson Christian College of Education in Kalomo district of Southern Province, Zambia was found in a decomposed state in the bush away from the school after committing suicide by taking poisonous particles, according to Zambian Watch.

And sources within Namwianga Mission told Zambian Watch that Samora Hanakamba owes the school about K18,000 in unremitted school fees including that of his girlfriend.

The sources narrated that the deceased forged deposits slips showing school fees for himself and the girlfriend were paid in full when in fact not, and school management discovered recently.

But another version of the story is that the deceased reportedly caught his girlfriend locked in an office with a named unmarried lecturer in the act.

Meanwhile, Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Bonny Kapeso confirmed that Hanakamba was found dead with a bottle of Doom and a rat pesticide.

The police commissioner said the deceased ended his young life after a misunderstanding with College management.
