NYSC Mobilization – Despite the directive Members of the House of Representatives issued to the management of the National Youth Service Corps on the mobilization of Benue State University students, the graduates were not mobilized still.
The NYSC recently accused the management of the institution of helping he students to manipulate their age to make them eligible for the one year service.
While speaking with journalists, during the swearing in of the 2018 Batch C Corps Members in the Federal Capital Territory, the NYSC director of ICT, Christy Mba said a check showed the school manipulated the matriculation numbers and graduation year of students.
She said, “In some situations, you find out that someone has been uploaded, then he goes into the system to register but along the line, he observes that the date of birth from JAMB database is going to exempt him, he goes back to the institution to manipulate his matric number and year of graduation to get mobilised.”
According to her, when NYSC notices such cases, it extracts it and blocks the students of such institution from going for service.
She said the students are also asked to go back to their institutions and collect their exemption certificates.
She added that some universities that were found culpable, were blocked from uploading data for the 2018 Batch C which according to her was what affected the Benue State University graduates.
Recall that Members of the House of Representatives asked the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to rescind its decision to disallow the graduating students of Benue State University from participating in the one-year service.
Describing the decision as illegal, the House directed the agency to mobilize the affected graduates immediately with the 2018 Batch ‘C’ prospective corps members.
