Accolades as four students emerge as winner of Campus Fashion Challenge maiden edition 2019

A group of student fashion gurus known as “Tomato Red,” have emerged winners of the maiden edition of the Campus Fashion Challenge, held in Ogun State, Nigeria.

QTeam Tomato Red which comprises 4 students from 3 Universities, Omodasola Oyebamiji -TASUED, Modupe Mustapha – Noun University, Catherine Oshivri – TASUED, Timilehin Oyebamiji – UI emerged as the overall winner, while Team Onions Purple and Team Jollof Orange ranked second and third, respectively.

The prize-winners of the challenge were awarded with One Hundred thousand Naira and were also given the opportunity to present their collections in prestigious fashion shows.

It should be of note that the Campus Fashion Challenge was not only birthed to unveil fashion talents among students but also to conceptualize and stir a new consciousness where decency is blended with good fashion thereby connecting talents, creativity and knowledge with meaningful interaction and engagement.

The main idea of the campus challenge was to initiate a fashion perspective with innovative criteria. Hence, the thematic objective of the event was to organize and develop outstanding products and ideas to get the media attention, present opportunities for scalable fashion products, and challenge the fashion sense that should be best adapted into the society.

Prior to the search for the ultimate fashion icon, The OWL Campus Media took the campaign to every door of models, make-up artists, fashion designer, photographer and Hairstylist to join the clash of the titans of creativity to showcase their brands through a research network.

According to organizers, more than 100 fashion gurus ranging from Models, Fashion Designers, Photographer, MakeUp Artiste, Hair Stylist qualified for the audition stage of the competition, but only 36 successfully scaled through to the finals.

Amuludun Toyosola, the Creative Lead of The OWL Campus Media, organizer of the Campus Fashion Challenge, said this creative competition was aimed at providing students with a platform to display their creative designs and share experiences, adding that the institute hopes to use this competition to promote traditional clothing culture and innovative designs.

He said “It initiative focuses on students fashion gurus and aims to give them an opportunity to get a good business start and a platform to show their innermost ability. Among the participants were both professionals and amateurs with a passion for fashion and designing”.

He further explained that one of the most difficult challenges a new designer face is gaining recognition. Hence, in the competitive world of fashion, as an undergraduate, they cannot rely on talent and vision alone. No matter how brilliant their design, the key to success is exposure. One way to get an early start on their career is through Fashion contests that will expose them to the outside world.

In an interview with the MakeUp Artiste from Team Tomato Red, Omodasola said that this was her first time participating in such a competition. “The experienced of this competition will encourage me to come up with better works,” she added.
