At the Swearing in ceremony of the 32nd Students’ Union President, the best by far University of Ilorin, which took place on the 13th August, 2018 at the University Auditorium, the President, Seyi Animashaun has pledged his commitment towards collective investment in people.

In his speech delivered at the Swearing-In ceremony, He expressed sincere gratitude to God almighty for another historical feat and unprecedented feat recorded in the history of the University of Ilorin Students’ Union and also thanking the entirety of students for their decisions upon handing the wheels of the union ship to himself and other fellow newly inaugurated executives

While speaking on the historical landmark of the Union, he said “31 intellectuals have led our union as presidents, and they did it at different times, with different working environments and different ideologies. Over the years, the nature of our Union has changed greatly, and a lot has been advanced.

We can authoritatively say that we are not where we used to be in our earlier years. While the previous administrations that our union has witnessed were diifferent in ideologies and modes of operation, one thing remains clear, that they are all connected in objective and purpose – to ultimately promote the welfare of students and create an enabling environment for personal development”.

While speaking on the state of the union especially in the league of Unionism as a model to other schools, He said “Our union remains a positive example to all others out there. This is not unconnected to the synergy that exists between the students and management of the University.

Our predecessors in the last few years have achieved a lot by building on the foundation of that synergy, and we the new set will not stray from that path”.

The newly sworn in President stressed that the hallmark of his campaign was “Investing in People”, a philosophy inspired through the last visit of world billionaire Bill Gates to Nigeria and his recommendations to the Nigerian government.

“Governance is a continuum, and our activities as a new set of executives will be premised mostly on the foundation laid by our immediate predecessor, I have titled this address “Together We Can Invest in People”.” He added.

While explaining the investment analysis, He said “the people of the Unilorin Student Union are we the students, and an investment in us means that as an administration, our time, energy and commitment will be directed towards our general welfare, health, academic development and opportunities – human capital – that will lay the foundation for sustained prosperity.

Hence, the new administration will prioritise on our needs and we shall work with all our strength in snergy with the management on the welfare of students and give a practical approach to issues including transportation, accommodation, security on and off campus, health and environmental sustainability, sports and entertainment”.

He reeled out some plans which will be brought into limelight for the benefit of all such as adequate attention to how to maximise the numerous policies and principles of the University in improving academic goals, constitution of SU Academic board with the sole duty of monitoring the academic activities and processes in all departments and giving periodic reports and recommendations to the management on the needs of the students in a bid to sustain an excellent academic environment, social innovations and human capacity development.

He however assured that his administration will be an all-inclusive one where all students will be recognized as stakeholders of the realm.
